Submission Guidelines

Scope
New Works Review has broad interests. Our editors are looking for first-class manuscripts on many subjects — short stories, articles, diaries, and visual art (paintings, photographs, and more). NWR will also publish reprints of previously published material, provided the author owns the copyright or reprint permission is granted by the original publisher. New Works Review is not accepting unsolicited poetry at this time. All poetry contributions are by invitation only.

Story writers....is your story a story? Go to Story Structure for details. And, don't forget Characters and Premise.

We want to encourage writers of all ages. Keep in mind we are a family-oriented e-zine. We do not publish stories that contain strong violence or explicit sex. We reserve the right to change words or phrases that amy be offensive to some of our readers. To get an idea of what we are looking for, read or view what we have published.

Payment
At this time, we are unable to pay even a small stipend, but every effort will be given to widely publicize this new publication and its writers. Recognition is the most important advantage New Works Review offers its authors. NWR receives 5,000 worldwide visits each month that last at least one-half hour or more. Every author will retain ownership and copyrights so that later on other publication options may be solicited.

File Formats
All submissions are to be sent via e-mail as an attachment. Each submission must be in text format (i.e. filename.txt -- not .doc, not .wpd).

For stories and essays, read how to format your manuscript for computer typesetting.

For length, style, etc., use our published presentations as your guide. The longer submissions must include your own photographs for illustration; however short diary-form submissions and poems, do not require photos. Until you have been notified that your work has been accepted for publication, do not send photographs. All manuscripts, photographs and artwork must be the author's own work. Use of the work of others without permission is a violation of copyright law.

Important
Send us your best work. It is not an editor's job to fix your mistakes. It is your job. Please use spell check, and incorporate any necessary suggestions for grammatical improvement suggested by your word processor. First drafts seldom make the cut. We reserve the right to make minor changes to manuscripts so that they fully conform to our guidelines. All manuscripts should contain only one space after each period, not two. Manuscripts may be single or double spaced, your preference.

When your work has been accepted, then send photos. They will need to be in JPEG file format (low resolution JPEGs, between 72 and 100 dpi) and, preferably, should not exceed 600 x 600 pixels in size, or exceed approximately 19 Kb. Computer monitors seldom exceed a 72 dpi resolution. Photos must be coded (by id. number) to match the numbered location specified in your manuscript. Contact us if you have any question regarding photos. Upon acceptance of your work, you will be required to provide us a short bio and a recent picture of yourself.

Requirements:
Put your name and address, email address, and telephone number on your submission.

Send story, essay, diary, artwork, and other submissions as an attachment to your email to The Editors.

In the subject line identify the subject — travel journal, diary, poem, artwork, or name of story. This is very important. We don't want to miss your submission. We get lots of email, and we want to be able to easily identify your submissions.

Submissions will be processed on a "first received - first served" basis. Somtimes we amy run out of time and not be able to prepare your submission for publication in an upcoming edition. If this happens, you will be notified and your submission will appear in a subsequent edition.

If you are unsure or have questions, ask first — don't hesitate to email: The Editors
